Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC)

Is verbal speech difficult to understand? Take a look at ways to support or replace your natural voice also known as Alternative & Augmentative Communication (AAC).

Key 2 Speech can assist with Augmentative & Alternative Communication. AAC is communication, other than natural speech or writing, used temporarily or on a permanent basis. AAC can be beneficial for those with CP, Apraxia, post stroke, or with a degenerative disease such as ALS.

Londa uses a multimodal approach (ex. gestures, symbols, low/high tech device, strategies, techniques, caregiver training) so the client's daily communication needs can be met. Some examples of low tech devices would be the use of exchanging picture cards or communication boards. High tech devices are dedicated for speech only or may be an app/software on a computer or iPad. There are more options everyday!

In 2023, Londa became the first South Dakota Certified Lingraphica Technology Specialist. This is an elite group of SLPs who are proficient in the use of Lingraphica technologies and who work closely with Lingraphica to optimize outcomes for people with communication impairments. Londa has a Lingraphica device in the office so there is no wait time to explore the device. Londa also has a device featuring Proloquo2Go, several vocabulary sets within the TouchChat software, and Tobii Dynavox's Snap Core.
